From lively bars with live entertainment to quieter, mellow bars with drink specials, Banff has something for everyone. Most bars have a happy hour from 4-6pm.
Here is a selection of the most popular drinking spots: Rose & Crown Located at 202 Banff Avenue, the Rose & Crown is a pub, with British-pub-inspired food in a beautiful location. Along with TV’s and pool tables, you'll find a full-service rooftop patio with incredible views and a fireplace surrounded by leather chairs. Live bands frequently play, and the music ranges from reggae to rock and blues. Showtime is generally 10pm. A piano even resides in one corner of the space, available for spontaneous merry-making and group sing-a-longs.
Melissa's Restaurant & Bar Located at 218 Lynx Street, Melissa's Restaurant & Bar is a local institution. The restaurant is housed in a building that resembles a chalet on the outside and a log cabin on the inside. In the mornings, breakfast is the main attraction. Stacks of pancakes topped with butter and syrup are the specialty, but homemade muffins are desirable as well. The breakfast burritos are terrific too, as is almost anything on the menu. Even better, the prices are quite reasonable. Lunch and dinner are served too, and the upstairs bar is a convenient gathering place in the evenings.
Wild Bill's Legendary Saloon Located at 201 Banff Ave, Wild Bill's Legendary Saloon is very popular with tourists and locals. Saddles, farm tools, and beer signs adorn walls and rafters, and a wagon hangs overhead. The menu is hearty and substantial, featuring burgers, ribs, steaks, and Tex-Mex. Signature dishes include big steaks, beef, chicken or veggie fajitas, and a burger loaded with bacon, cheese, and mushrooms. There is a separate games lounge and a large dance floor for evening festivities. Live bands, many of them Canadian, play frequently, and you're likely to hear country, rock, reggae, or ska on any given night.
Elk and Oarsman Located at 119 Banff Avenue, the Elk and Oarsman has a roof top patio with a 360 mountain view. This is a pub/restaurant, with a casual menu of charbroiled Alberta sirloin and rib steaks with blackened and peppercorn sauce options, flatbread or thick-crust pizza, burgers (beef, venison, bison, salmon, turkey, chorizo), BBQ back ribs, ale battered haddock and chips and a good choice of beers. The location is spectacular. They have the highest dining terrace in the downtown, and it's wonderful on a warm summer evening. The pub also has a big-screen sports TV. The most popular Canadian beers are Molson Canadian and Labatt's Blue;
Molson is the oldest brewery in North America, established in 1786 in
Montreal. If you are interested in seeking out regional beers, rather
than the national brands, then you may wish to try Moosehead (New
Brunswick), Alexander Keith (Nova Scotia), Gahan House (Charlottetown,
PEI), Unibroue (Quebec), Big Rock (Alberta) or Kokannee (British
Columbia).
